Walter Abercrombie was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers 12th overall in 1982 following a standout career at Baylor. He rushed for 207 yards in his first collegiate game, setting an NCAA record for the most rushing yards in a debut—a record that remained unbroken for over 30 years. He finished his career at Baylor with 3,665 rushing yards, a record that lasted until 2016. Abercrombie still holds the school’s record for the most career rushing attempts (732) and games with 100+ rushing yards (19). Over his six seasons with the Steelers, Abercrombie rushed for 3,343 yards and scored 29 total touchdowns.
